Raleigh, North Carolina Chapter

Raleigh Chapter sello

The Raleigh Chapter of American Pilgrims covers Raleigh, North Carolina and the surrounding area. Broadly stated, the purpose of this local chapter is to keep members connected to the Camino and to introduce new people to the phenomenon. We plan to accomplish this in a number of ways, such as social events, hikes, mentoring future pilgrims and serving as a local host for hospitalero training through American Pilgrims.

The chapter will be scheduling local hikes, talks, potlucks, a lending library of Camino related books, and more! These will be listed here but you may also want to check the Local Events page for other events that may be of interest. Contact chapter coordinators Martha Hayes, John Saxon and Grace Bunemann at [email protected] for more information or to be added to the chapter e-mail list.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

If you're not on our e-mail list perhaps you should ask to be added. You'll receive notices of events automatically and won't miss anything that way. Contact us at [email protected].

As of March 2017, under American Pilgrims' Insurance guidelines dogs are not allowed on our group hikes. Naturally, certified service dogs are an exception to this policy.

Have you ever wondered about the history and purpose of a labyrinth? How could it be a pathway to help you center and focus? How could it help you on your Camino?

Come join the Raleigh Chapter for a brief history of the labyrinth and how it is used in modern times, as well. Lib Campbell will explain the labyrinth at St. Marks United Methodist Church, and guide us through walking the labyrinth. This program will happen rain or shine, since she also has a portable labyrinth.

CARY, NORTH CAROLINA
Preparing for Your Camino and Shell Ceremony
Monday, March 18, 2019, 7:00 - 8:30 PM

Planning what gear youll need for an upcoming Camino is one of the most discussed topics between past and future pilgrims. From shoes and socks, to the right size and fit for your backpack and everything in between, this discussion promises to help sort out your gear list. Previous pilgrims, please bring an item to share and advice about what really did or did not work for you on the Camino. If you are a future pilgrim, bring your questions and clothes or items you are thinking about packing. Other last-minute preparations for your Camino, including technology (gear and apps), travel tips, credentials, and physical preparation for spring and early summer pilgrims will also be addressed.

We will also have a Shell Ceremony for 2019 pilgrims from our Chapter. Please let us know as soon as possible if (1) you'll be starting the Camino later this year, (2) are planning to attend the March 18th meeting, and (3) would like to be recognized in the Shell Ceremony for departing pilgrims in 2019. Co-Chair John Saxon has attempted to reach all pilgrims who have notified the Chapter of summer and fall 2019 Camino intentions. If we have not emailed you individually yet or you haven't yet notified us of your plans please email us shortly so we can make sure all our peregrinos are included in the ceremony!

All are welcome. Although we encourage it, you do not need to be a member of American Pilgrims on the Camino to participate.
